Co-Founder & Managing Director
30 years of experience in the office of the CFO. Nine years as Director BeNeLux at the Hackett Group, specialist in finance benchmarking. Managing Director Finance & Performance Management at Capgemini Consulting. COO and co-owner of Transparix (SaaS, acquired by Logistyx). Educated at INSEAD. Michel leads the commercial strategy and understands what controllers and CFOs need better than anyone.
Jaap van der Ende
Co-Founder & Director Growth & Strategy
Strategy consultant and serial entrepreneur. Background at Innogy Innovation Hub and MSc Engineering at TU Delft. Jaap drives the growth strategy, marketing, and operational execution. He combines technical insight with a strategic vision on how Smartbooks reaches SMBs.
Marcel Vlug
Co-Founder & Product Architect
35 years of experience in Enterprise Performance Management with over 300 implementations at organizations like Akzo Nobel, Philips, KPN, KLM, and Friesland Campina. Marcel has realized four successful exits, including Partake Consulting (acquired by EY) and CXO Software (acquired by Insight Software). Smartbooks is his third-generation EPM product, built with enterprise logic, designed for SMBs, and ready for the AI era.
Katja Melkert
HR, Legal & Finance
Background at KPMG, Partake Consulting, and inlumi. Educated at Nyenrode. Katja manages HR, legal affairs, and administration, ensuring the founders can focus on strategy and product. She brings experience from both the Big Four and the EPM consulting landscape.
Aleksey Shipilov
Principal DevOps Engineer
Fifteen years of experience in enterprise software at companies including ING, FRISS and CXO Software, where he worked with Marcel and Dmitri on corporate EPM dashboarding. Specialized in C#, Java, TypeScript and cloud architecture, with a focus on scalable systems for financial data.
Dmitri Tsoy
Principal DevOps Engineer
Over fifteen years of experience in enterprise software, specialized in financial reporting and distributed systems. Previously Lead Software Engineer at Rabobank and Van Lanschot Kempen, working on critical financial systems. Before that part of the CXO Software team (2011–2014), where he collaborated with Marcel and Aleksey on corporate EPM dashboarding. Works with .NET, Python and Azure.
Robin van den Born
Customer Success Manager
Background in finance and data science, and joined Smartbooks straight after his studies. Robin is the point of contact for new customers during implementation and onboarding, and for existing customers when something isn't working as it should. He guides customers through the setup and helps them think through how their reporting and consolidation can best be configured.
